Meet Pesta! She's the personification of Plague. When she uses her rake, some will be spared. When she uses her broom, all will die. Cheerful huh?
Anyway, this doll is based on an illustration by Theodor Kittelsen. Pesta is my first foray into the world of doll making.Pesta’s face is polymer clay mask sewn to a muslin body. The body is purposefully humpbacked and shortlegged to match the drawings. She has raw wool hair and polymer clay hands and wrists. She wears a robe and shoes of rough brown wool. The robe’s cowl is gathered with black embroidery floss and bone beads shaped like elongated skulls. Pesta wears a black calico head scarf under her hood and a pair of dainty printed pantalets beneath her robes. Hey, she is a woman!
Her broom and rake are made of sticks, nails, and string and her hands have been shaped around them. If you'd like to see the original illustration, go here:www.flickr.com/photos/twf88/529457932/
